CHRISTOPHER O. CLARY

Christopher Clary is a specialist in South Asian security and defense issues. From 2006-2009 he served as a country director for South Asian affairs in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, where he was responsible for bilateral defense relationships with India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and the Maldives. His particular areas of focus included defense trade, export controls and counterterrorism cooperation.

Prior to his work at the Pentagon, Mr. Clary served as a 2008-2009 Council on Foreign Relations International Affairs Fellow in India, hosted by the Institute for Defense Studies and Analyses in New Delhi, where he focused on Indian national security reforms. He previously served as a research associate for the Department of National Security Affairs at the Naval Postgraduate School from 2003 to 2005 and as a research assistant for the South Asia project of the Henry L. Stimson Center from 2001 to 2003. He received his BA from Wichita State University and an MA from the Naval Postgraduate School.

Mr. Clary is currently a PhD student in the Department of Political Science of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
