CHRISTIAN W.D. BOCK
Christian Bock, Senior Advisor for Africa and Counsel to Avascent International, is a South Africa-based strategy and risk consultant in political, economic and security issues affecting Sub-Saharan Africa.
Mr. Bock has designed and led US Government security and peacekeeping operations in Africa since 2005, including the deployment of the first international peacekeeping mission in Somalia in 15 years (2007), and Africa’s first full demobilization of military forces in Liberia (2005). He has also led US post-conflict reconstruction and reconciliation efforts in Uganda, Burundi, Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Sudan and directed over $200 million in budgetary allocations for African security initiatives.
An attorney by training, Mr. Bock previously served as General Counsel to a successful UK mobile technology venture and as a legal advisor to the United Nations on post-conflict reconstruction efforts in the Balkans. Early in his career, he worked for Senator Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), former Vice President Al Gore, and in other domestic US political positions. His writings have appeared in publications around the globe, including The Washington Post and Pravda.
Conversant in Swahili and French, Mr. Bock holds an LLM in Public International Law from the London School of Economics, a JD from Wake Forest University and a BA in Political Science from Florida State University. He has also studied at the Université Panthéon-Assas in France, and taught international law at the University of Liberia.
