JASON K. NYE
Dr. Jason Nye is Director of AI
Research and is based in Seattle. His
expertise is in global defense and aerospace markets, US and international
export and trade controls, intellectual property rights (IPR), and East Asia
and Middle East defense and security.
From 2002-2008, Dr. Nye served as
a Division Chief and Senior Analyst with the Department of State’s Bureau of
Intelligence and Research (INR). In addition to advising senior State
Department officials on political-military issues, his portfolio included
intelligence analysis related to the international arms trade and US arms
export control compliance—subjects in which Dr. Nye was recognized as the US
government’s leading intelligence expert. In addition, Dr. Nye served as the US government’s lead representative
to the Wassenaar Arrangement’s Experts Group, where he helped enact
international policy standards for controlled defense articles.
Dr. Nye also served as the State
Department’s representative for National Intelligence Council (NIC) assessments
and took a leading role in drafting several NIC assessments on defense and
security issues around the globe, including Northeast Asia, Central Asia, the
Middle East, Europe, South America and general strategic issues. Dr. Nye also served as the State Department’s
representative for NIC forums to establish National Intelligence Priorities.
In addition to his federal government
service, Dr. Nye has held managerial positions within the petroleum and
transportation industries, where he focused on marketing, operations and
performance optimization. From 1989 to 1992, Dr. Nye was enlisted as a
reconnaissance infantryman in the United States Marine Corps.
A 1994 graduate of Montana State
University, Dr. Nye received his PhD from the University of St. Andrews (UK) in
history in 2000. He has held academic and teaching posts at the University of
St. Andrews and the University of Mainz (Germany) and speaks German.
